Jessie Zinn is a filmmaker from Cape Town, South Africa. She is interested in exploring notions of space and identity through filmic forms that push the boundaries between fiction and non-fiction. Her short films have screened at international film festivals including MoMA Doc Fortnight, Visions Du Reel and the Durban International Film Festival.
She has been selected as a participant for the Visions Du Reel Pitching Forum (2017), Durban Film Mart (2017, 2019), Berlinale Talents (2018), IDFA Academy (2018), IFP Film Week (2018) and the Sheffield Meet Market (2019). In 2017, she was named a 'Marie Claire Future Shaper' in partnership with Marie Claire Magazine and in 2018 she was named a 'Mail & Guardian 200 Young South African'.
She is currently co-directing her first feature documentary (’The Home’), which has received support from the National Film and Video Foundation. She graduated from the University of Cape Town with a B.A in English Literature and Film Production (2014) and a B.A (Honours) in Documentary Film & Video (2018). She is an MFA candidate at Stanford University.
